Today we talked more about the code of Hammurabi. And it has really made me question if there rate of people being put in jail or crime rate was as high as ours today. Because then, punishment was a lot higher and made people fear doing things. In today’s world things are much nicer and the government doesn’t hand out as bad of punishment. Then if you killed someone you’d be killed. The phrase a life for a life was used a lot. In today’s world if you kill someone you could get life in jail on parole meaning if you act good you can get out earlier. These punishment is a lot better then death which makes me question in crime and murder rate was as high as ours. I also think if you just looked how they acted then. There were lots of crime going on but it was more to protest for more freedom. Now we don’t commit crime for freedom we commit out of anger or jealousy or physiological thoughts. This also brings the question up on if the world today is more easy and emotional then life hundreds...

Early river valley civilizations, 3500-450 B.C.

Today in western civ we started classes by taking notes on pages 26-34 in the book the was given to us. I managed to get key notes on pages 26-27 and a little bit of page 28. We learned about the earliest city-state places that were established. In 2660 B.C. Egypt’s old kingdom develops. In 3000 B.C. City-states formed in sumer, Mesopotamia, in 1792 B.C. Hammurabi developed the first code of laws which were used to punish those who committed crimes and anything they found punishable at the time. In 1750 B.C. Indus Valley civilization started to decline, in 1027 B.C. The zhou dynasty formed in China. The 4 rivers that were used to help this early civilization grow and mondernize were  the Nile river, Indus River, huang river, and the Chang Jiang (Yangtze river). These were some key things we Learned in class today but to end class we had a 15 minute long discussion about pig theives and how the punishments in the early times of growing. We argued about if certain people got easier p...

First test

Today in western civilization we took our very first test of the course. It was on guns drugs and steel the things We’ve been watching videos and learning about. The test was 100 points but had a good amount of questions on it. All the questions were things we had already learned and I feel as though I did very good on it. On the back we had to know 8 animals and I only memorized 7 because I thought we only had to know 7 but I ended up figuring out 8 animals. I named all the animals except for yak and reindeers. I studied before the test so I felt confident going in the test I feel like I did good. I also had time to start on some math homework and get that finished up. We had about 30 minutes after the test to do something productive so I started working on math and some English.

Review/3 hour delay

Today in western civilization we started off by reviewing some questions and the class as a group seems like we all take good notes and have a very good understanding for what going on in class. We also had a long debate on how cold it was in the class and how cold it was outside and how bright the light shined through the window. We also then began to question if we were gonna get out of school early and mr.schick thought we would not but we ended up getting out 3 hours early. We also got information that there is going to be a 100 point test soon.
